Women’s History Month: Top 10 Women Killing The Game

To celebrate Women’s History Month, here’s a list of empowering women (in no particular order) that are currently making waves and practicing confidence through their music.
1. Rihanna
With the release of her ‘ANTI’ album, Rihanna has been topping the charts. Why do we love RiRi? She keeps it real, raw and nothing holds her back. Her lyrics let women know that we can be ourselves, a little risky and still be sexy!

2. Beyonce
Well, they do call her Queen B for a reason! She’s been making hit records ever since Destiny’s Child and has managed to set a great example of what an empowering women is capable of. With her massive fanbase, Bey is never afraid to speak up on issues that play an influence in her life such as the controversial “Formation” video.

3. Erykah Badu
This Neo-Soul queen knows how to add her own flavor to anything. Her lyrics make you feel right at home because of their truth and expressive vibes. She can make any women sit back and reflect with her very soft vocals. We love Erykah!

4. Adele
Adele is a phenomenon around the world and has managed to release a hit album this year that can make anyone swoon and cry, at the same time. Not only is she powerful, but she’s always comfortable in her own skin. She doesn’t conform to societies view of beauty and manages to remain a curvy women with her own style. Adele, we love you!

5. FKA TWIGS
Not only does she love rice pudding (which I noticed because I spotted her at rice to riches in Soho, NY) but she also has some incredible music. Her vocals make anyone want to listen for more and she lets women know that you can be your own kind of weird, unique and entirely yourself.

6. Tinashe
This rising diva has managed to show off her dance moves while being able to hit those high notes. She’s a young star with a bright future and we love her for showing women that age doesn’t define you. Team Tinashe!

7. Kehlani
Putting on for Oak Town and remaining true to herself, this young lady has managed to show women that you can be whoever you want to be as long as you put in the work! With two amazing mix tapes and some hot ink, Kehlani has managed to create one of the biggest underground brands.
8. Alessia Cara
Ever felt awkward at a party? Well, Alessia has too. With her hit single “Here”, she’s managed to show women all around the world that you can feel awkward and still be beautiful or great at what you do. Plus, you don’t have to be a party girl to be cool.

9. LEAF
This upcoming songstress is finally releasing new music and recently released an RnBass hit entitled “Ride For You”. I’ve had my eyes open to LEAF’s ongoing growth and talent, and I must say, as a fan I am super proud. She’s coming into her own self and showing us that greatness takes time, but it isn’t impossible.
10. Seinabo Sey
New favorite artist, who manages to create some of the greatest lyrical content while keeping listeners engaged, has managed to rise in both the UK and the states. She’s different, she’s edgy and she is entirely herself. She is yet another example of a women that is comfortable in her own skin and is teaching other women that they should feel comfortable too.

Happy Women’s History Month!

Happy Birthday Rihanna! Here’s 5 Of Her Biggest Career Moments

Rihanna

Happy Birthday to our favorite bad gal, Rihanna!

The songstress, fashion icon, and Instagram queen turns 28 today, and to celebrate, we’re looking back at 5 of her biggest career moments.

The Barbados beauty has been a staple in our culture since breaking into the music sense, and it’s hard to comprehend just how many musical achievements Rihanna has tied her name to prior to her 28th birthday.

Take a look below, and cheers to another year RiRi!

Rihanna Breaks Through with “Pon De Replay”

In 2004, 16-year-old Rihanna was an unsigned artist trying to catch the ear of the music world from her native country of Barbados. The highlight of her first demo tape was a reggae-dance track called “Pon De Replay,” “play it again,” which instantly got her signed to Jay-Z’s Def Jam.

“Umbrella” Starts the Good Girl Gone Bad String of Hits

“Umbrella” found RiRi rocking her new, edgily cut, and stylish look. The catchy song became one of her most critically acclaimed tracks and biggest breakthrough hit.

Chris Brown & Rihanna’s Controversial “Birthday Cake” Remix Comes In

The steamy hot song was first hear on Rih’s 2011 album Talk That Talk, however, the full version hit the Internet in February of 2012 and since then, the controversy with Breezy unfolded.

Rihanna brings in $34M to Puma

Well, we’re sure Puma is happy with their decision of making Rihanna their Creative Director. Just last year, the sneaker company added Riri to their team and reports have just announced that over this past year, Puma beat their average projections by a nice $34.5 million!

It’s no mystery why this is. Rihanna’s latest collection of “Creeper” and “Eskiva” sneakers were completely bought out from every shelf.

Puma now has a “Fenty by Rihanna” collection on the way for 2016. Maybe Pumas are the new sneakers of the year!

Rihanna Cancels 2016 Grammy’s Performance

Rihanna

It’s been one incredible night thus far at the 58th Grammy’s, but one disappointment for Rihanna’s fans has surfaced.

According to TMZ, RiRi has bronchitis and will not be performing. A doctor on the site has suggested that the Barbados singer rest her vocals and not risk damaging her vocal chords.

In an exclusive statement to JustJared, Rihanna‘s rep said, “Based on Rihanna‘s examination, after Grammy rehearsal today, Rihanna‘s doctor put her on vocal rest for 48-hours because she was at risk of hemorrhaging her vocal chords. The antibiotics she has been on for 3-days did not kill the infection adequately therefore she cannot perform safely.”

Get well soon Rih!
