Why is it that we love all Rihanna and Drake collaborations? Could it our stubborn desire of wanting the bad-ass Barbados singer and smooth-game-talking Toronto rapper to be a couple once and for all?! Or is it the crash of their musical talents? Maybe both.
Although Rihanna and Drake have never confirmed any previous dating rumors, they sure do a great job at bringing the energy in songs and videos.
In 2010, the two got together for their first collaboration in Rihanna’s Loud album, “What’s My Name?”. This was a little over a year from when Chris Brown was sentenced to five years probation and six months of community service over the physical altercation with Rihanna.
Meanwhile, Drake drops hints of sexual tension on his verse for “What’s My Name” while Rihanna let’s it be known that she’s looking for somebody to go “downtown”.
In 2011, the two come back on Drake’s “Take Care” album with what seemed like a personal and relatable message to Riri after dealing with an alleged reconciliation with Breezy. “Take Care” was written by Drake. It became Drake’s biggest worldwide hit as a lead artist.
Not to mention the creative way that these two have managed to break records. Drake has taken up the music streaming platform, Spotify, as his source to release new music generating record-breaking amount of plays, while Rihanna has become the first artist to pass 100 million gold & platinum song certifications on Recording Industry Association of America.
Today (2016), the two give us a reggae twist with their latest single “Work” featured on Rihanna’s anticipated album “ANTI” . The song was written by OVO artist, PARTYNEXTDOOR. Producer Sevn Thomas shared with Complex that he was staying at Drake’s house when the beat was finalized and sent to PARTY, who was staying at Rihanna’s house where she heard it and fell in love.
Take a listen to the Jamaican-influenced track “Work” right here.
