10 Facts You Didn’t Know About Zayn

Zayn-Malik

When Zayn Malik announced that he would be leaving the teen sensation boy band One Direction, the world went ballistic. However, little did they knew that his talent was going to shine beyond that.

Fast-forward to a year later, and the British pop heartthrob has evolved not only as an artist, but as a writer. His highly awaited solo album Mind of Mine dropped this past week, and it’s already raising to the top of the charts with smash hits like “PillowTalk” “Like I Would” and “wRoNg” featuring Kehlani.

With that being said, I’ve taken it upon myself to dig in and bring you 10 random facts from the former One Direction member, and of course, let me know your “Zayn Knowledge” in the comments below.

1. Zayn’s name is actually spelt with an ‘i’ (Zain). He says “Zayn” looks more original and adopted it as his stage name.

2. Zayn means “beautiful” in Arabic.

3. He has a total of eighth tattoos on his body. The most recent is a life-size microphone on his right forearm that he had done in Los Angeles.

4. Zayn is a huge Chris Brown fan. He lists ‘All Back’ as one of his most-played songs, and ‘Graffiti’ as his favorite album.

5. He tried to auditione for X Factor in 2009, but his nerves got the best of him. He later followed through in 2010 and sand Mario’s hit song “Let Me Love You.”

6. His X Factor audition number was #165616. He’s joked around that he’d like to get it tattooed on his arm.

7. One of Zayn’s most memorable mottos is: “Never live life in the fear of death, no matter how hard life gets, don’t lose hope.”

8. Zayn was named Best Dressed Male of 2014 by GQ magazine

9. He suffers from Aquaphobia – meaning that he’s scared of open water, and also can’t swim.

10. Zayn’s all-time favorite song is “Thriller” by Michael Jackson. Mmm, I wonder if he can get down with some M.J. moves too?

Why you should be listening to Zayn’s “Mind Of Mine” album (Review)

It’s been a year and some change since Zayn has left One Direction and man, how things have only blown up for the talented artist!

On Thursday, the artist released his first solo album titled “Mind Is Mine”. Zayn uses his vocal power to provide listeners with smooth, sexy and cool lyrics that you will be listening to on repeat just like his single “Pillow Talk”. This album shuts down the critics that doubted Zayn potential to make it as a solo artist.

Check out as we break down our favorite tracks off the album!

Pillowtalk– Zayn’s first released single off the album and currently standing on the Top 10 for the Hot 100. “Pillowtalk” is about making endless love with someone and neither partner wanting to leave the pillow. Zayn sings about the physical and spiritual elements of sex in way that makes you want to find someone to pillow talk with after listening to the song.

“I’m seeing the pain, seeing the pleasure.
Nobody but you, ‘body but me
’ body but us, bodies together”

wRoNg– This track is the only song that has a featured artist, one and only Kehlani. This song is a boy and girl story. He wants to just have sex with her, yet he knows it is wrong. Where she thinks that if she keeps sleeping with him she will win his heart. At the end of the song the two realize what it is: a hookup so good and wrong that neither of them want to quit. Together Zayn’s and Kehlani’s soulful voice creates one heck of a sexy vibe.

“You’re looking in the wrong place for my love
. Don’t think because you’re with me this is real
. You’re looking in the wrong place for my love.
Don’t stop what you’re doing cause I like that too.”

BeFoUr– This song is about moving on and sticking to your guns. Zayn is letting everyone know that you can say whatever you want about him, he’ll continue to do him. It seems the song is about all his haters and that he knows that is all apart of the fame game. This song provides a laid back beat that will make you want to cruise in your car on full blast.

“Now, I’m gonna stay in my zone
. I’m tired of picking that bone
. And I can’t be bothered
. To fight it no more, no”

LIKE I WOULD– Definitely one of the dance tracks of the album. In this song, Zayn sings about reaching out to an old flame and reminding them that your current boo doesn’t compare. If you need to remind an ex that you’re the best, this one’s for you.

“Talkin’ don’t want me cause I want you
. Been thinkin’ it over, but I’m through.
So stop wasting all my time, messing with my mind
. It’s cold-hearted, cold-hearted.”

A breakdown of standout samples from Tiller’s TrapSoul

Bryson Tiller aka “Pen Griffey” has undeniable set the music world on fire with his debut album “Trap Soul”. This project holds sounds that all came from sessions with Legendary Producer Timbaland and his many protégés in Miami. We’ve heard the sounds and tracks that are the baselines of tracks such as “Exchange”,” Sorry Not Sorry” and vocal samples that appear on “Don’t“. We break down for you some of the standout samples from the projects right here.

1.Don’t– Interpolation (Replayed Sample) of vocals/lyrics that came from Mariah Carey’s chart topping hit from 2005, “Shake it off”. The lyric used by Young Tiller is, “He keeps on playing games and his loving ain’t the same,” which Mariah used as a bridge to the hook.

2.Exchange– In this song, multiple elements were used from K.P and Envyi 90’s hit “Swing My Way. Starting with the beat itself and the vocals from K.P and Envyi opening harmonies that are filtered out and chopped with a little delay. Also more, hi-hats were added along with a melodic baseline.

3. Sorry Not Sorry– Any OG 90’s baby hears this track and thinks back to playing Street Fighter 2 on SEGA all night, Timbaland and Millibeat were spot on with giving this track a nostalgic feel. As both Guile’s Theme and Street Fighter 2 sound effects were incorporated through out the track. Last but not least, Vine star “Brian Blacka$$” Vine quote from 2013 was inserted in the song at end, “Boy, you don’t get tha f**k.”

4. 502 Come up– In an ode to his hometown Louisville, he used direct vocal samples from the infamous Reverend W.A. Donaldson 1952 song, “Baptizing Sounds.” It’s a great mix with the modern beats of today. All Kanye fans should remember this sound from the opening of the track of “N*ggas in Paris,” as well as numerous tracks off the new Ghetto Gospel, “Life of Pablo.”

5. For However Long– A sample of multiple elements of one of the best R&B groups of all time, Jodeci’s “Alone.” If you go back to Jodeci’s track, at around 1:27 is where Bryson’s producers sampled the elements for the whole track.
